Three days of three group practices and the meaty portion of Pittsburgh Penguins training camp is already over. We’re moving quickly this year and the season starts in 10 days, so the Penguins’ lines in the first days of camp matter just a little more than previous years. We also chatted with Elmer Soderblom about his whoops on Thursday, and the team gave us a glimpse of the next wave.

Elsewhere in the Daily, the NHL trade rumors got a little peek at a real-life trade offer made by the Boston Bruins when they committed an unforced error in a team-released video. Frank Seravalli torched the Columbus Blue Jackets in a radio appearance. Tristan Jarry is eyeing a bounce-back season, and the Detroit Red Wings still feel unsettled, but could Patrik Laine join the fun?

The Penguins are off today, so we’ll not be at the rink, but I had a blast meeting all of you at camp. If you’re awake late tonight, hopefully, we’ll talk a little bit of hockey on WPXI’s Final Word, but it probably won’t air untl 12:30 a.m. or so.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The next wave got a little taste of playing with the NHL players. The Penguins moved Liam Ruck up to the NHL group and the Penguins’ first-round pick loved it.

The notebook from Day 3. We chatted with Elmer Soderblom about the Day 1 whoopsie but also about his response. I wanderered over to have a talk with Nick Robertson about the challenges of playing with Sidney Crosby, there was a scary moment late in practice, the early Penguins lines, and more notes from Penguins camp.

NHLtraderumors.me: So, the Boston Bruins were trying to trade for Filip Hronek. We know this because of the team released video. In the background was the trade offer, and some astute viewers were able to zoom in to see exactly what Boston offered.

So, the Ottawa video mentioned the Penguins offered a position player for the 25th pick. The Bruins video fully leaked the trade offer. I like it, and I bet you do, too. And I’m sure the teams hate it. I would be surprised if cameras are allowed into war rooms going forward.

Sportsnet: Here’s a story that I’m glad I’m not writing this month, but I’ve had to write several versions in the past. After a brutal second half, goalie Tristan Jarry is ready for a bounceback year with the Edmonton Oilers.

Montreal Hockey Now: Too many goalies. Good young defensemen. And a young team on the precipice of truly contending. The three questions facing the Montreal Canadiens.

Also, Frank Seravalli was a guest on my old stomping grounds, Sportsnet 590 in Toronto. He essentially immolated the Columbus Blue Jackets for their failure to sign Adam Fantili.

Philly Hockey Now: The Penguins didn’t have their annual camp scrimmage, but the Philly Flyers did. Will James was front and center for the analysis of who looked good and what is happening with the Flyers roster.

Florida Hockey Now: Two Tkacuk brothers. Double the trouble for the Florida Panthers and opponents. Big Walt has to be loving it, but Paul Maurice gave a beauty of a reason that still has me laughing as to why he will NOT pair the Tkachuk brothers on a line with Sam Bennett.

Oh to cover Paul Maurice with lines like that.

Detroit Hockey Now: Yes, the Detroit Red Wings know they need to end this long, long playoff drought. They need to start winning, but … can the Red Wings do it?
