Eagles vs Rams score, predictions. Can Matthew Stafford, LA get revenge?

· Yahoo Sports

PHILADELPHIA − The Eagles and Rams might still end up playing each other in the NFC Championship game in late January.

But for now, both teams have been underwhelming as they face each other on Oct. 4 at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles (2-1) were walloped on Sept. 28 in their 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears. The Rams (1-2), meanwhile, were buried by that same score in Australia back on Sept. 10, then lost 30-26 to the Broncos on Sept. 27 after blowing a 16-0 lead.

So yes, you can call this "The Motivation Bowl" as both teams are determined to overcome slow starts to the regular season.

That's why Eagles coach Nick Sirianni wasn't falling for the Rams supposedly being more motivated than the Eagles.

"I think we're motivated also, and we have a lot of respect for this football team," Sirianni said. "We're gonna have to play our best game to date. They have new pieces in there that, since the last time we played them, that have been great football players in the NFL.

"We have to have a great week of preparation, because it just doesn't magically happen."

Sirianni is referring to the out-of-retirement defensive tackle Aaron Donald and edge rusher Myles Garrett, who's on injured reserve and won't play.

But this is where Sirianni is wrong: The Eagles are 6-1 against the Rams since Sean McVay became the head coach in 2017, and 10-1 since 2005. That includes the memorable game last season when Jordan Davis blocked the Rams' potential game-winning field goal with 2 seconds left, picked up the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown.

There was also the Eagles' 28-22 win over the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round game in Jan. 2025 when the Rams were driving for a potential game-winning touchdown before Jalen Carter sacked Rams QB Matthew Stafford on third down inside the Eagles' red zone, then forced him to throw awry on fourth down.

And, of course, the Eagles are trying to duplicate McVay's outside zone, play-action scheme with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

Most importantly, the Rams don't want to fall to 1-3.

There's a good chance WR Puka Nacua will make his season debut after recovering from a groin injury. Eagles DC Vic Fangio must have nightmares of Nacua and Davante Adams running free through the middle of the field after watching the Bears' Kalif Raymond do it on Sept. 28. The Eagles are facing another geriatric QB in Matthew Stafford. The problem for the Birds is that Stafford has thrown for about 50,000 more yards than the Bears' Case Keenum, and that's not an exaggeration.

The pick: Rams 34, Eagles 23

It's time to ask that all important question: Is it possible the Eagles just aren't that good? The offensive line isn't the anchor it was two years ago. That issue alone is like a snowball causing an avalanche. If the line struggles, so will Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts and the passing game. The defense was picked apart by Case Keenum. Now the Rams come to town. Hopefully, the Eagles play up to their competition. At this point, you just don't know.

The pick: Rams 30, Eagles 17

It's been an underwhelming past two weeks to say the least for the Eagles after squeaking by the Titans and suffering a blowout loss against third-string QB Case Keenum and the Bears. Brighter days are ahead for Philly, who play five of their next seven games at the Linc. But the Rams, with a potential return of one of the best wide receivers in the game in Puka Nacua, are too much for the Birds to overcome.

The pick: Rams 27, Eagles 23

The sub-.500 Rams need the game and have revenge on their minds. The Eagles' defense doesn't have a takeaway and just got roasted by a third string, journeyman quarterback. That all adds up to a rough afternoon for the Birds.

The pick: Rams 30, Eagles 19

Tom Moore

While the Eagles are on a short week having played Monday night, the Rams are flying across the country for an early game (1 p.m.) Sunday. I see this as a tossup game.

The pick: Rams 24, Eagles 23

Tom Haines

Both the Rams and Eagles have been the victims of 27-7 blowouts, although Los Angeles' season-opening shellacking was likely aided by a 15-hour flight to Australia. The Rams won't have quite as long a trip this week, but coming east for a 1 p.m. kickoff is never easy for West Coast teams. Will the vaunted Rams drop to 1-3? Can the Eagles put the ugly Chicago loss behind them? Early-season NFL is so hard to get a handle on, but a gut feeling...

The pick: Eagles 27, Rams 23

Kevin Tresolini

Just can't endorse the Eagles in this one after Monday night's failure on multiple levels against the Bears. The Rams have certainly had their own problems this year and are certainly beatable. But even being at home doesn't earn the Birds the nod this time around.

The pick: Rams 24, Eagles 20

Brandon Holveck

The Eagles will need the rushing attack they showed in the first half of the Bears game to balance the offense and keep their suddenly lackluster defense off the field. The Rams, however, are wounded, too, with Myles Garrett sidelined and Puka Nacua questionable.

The pick: Eagles 20, Rams 17

Tom Rimback

The Eagles have a lot to sort out right now, and facing the Rams is no place to start. Not sure there's a good reason for this much talent to play uninspiringly. Not sure it can be sorted out by the weekend.

The pick: Rams 32, Eagles 13

Bob Jordan

Eagles haters missed their chance on Monday night. This has to be a bounce-back for the Birds, right?

The pick: Eagles 27, Rams 21

Overall records

3-0: Bainbridge

2-1: Frank, Giesen, McGurk, Moore, Jordan, Haines, Tresolini, Ganassi, Rimback, Holveck
