As 49ers injuries pile up, WR Mike Evans reportedly set to play vs. Cardinals

A flurry of defensive lineman and wide receiver injuries have already decimated the San Francisco 49ers this year. But at least for Sunday's divisional matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, star wide receiver Mike Evans is expected to be on the field.
According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, Evans plans to play through the hip injury he suffered in Week 2's blowout win over the Dolphins. Evans was listed as questionable after he didn't practice at all on Wednesday and Thursday and was a limited participant on Friday.

It's a piece of good news for San Francisco in the face of so many other injury issues. Earlier this week, star defensive end Nick Bosa injured his calf warming up for practice on Thursday and is now expected to miss a few weeks. That injury, added in with so many others on the defensive line, led the Niners to work out four veteran pass rushers on Saturday - not a thing you want to be doing before a Week 3 game.
"Losing six out of the 10 D-linemen in the last two weeks that have made our team is a little unusual," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted in a press conference on Friday. "I don't think I've been a part of that, so that has been different."
The only other position that's been as impacted by injuries is wide receiver. The 49ers have already lost Ricky Pearsall for the season with a knee injury, won't have top 2026 draft pick De'Zhaun Stribling for at least the next two months with an ankle injury and placed veteran Demarcus Robinson on injured reserve on Saturday with a high ankle sprain.
Evans was already banged up quite a bit this season, missing time in training camp with a quad strain, a foot injury and a pulled groin. But Evans suited up in the first two games and shined, catching 9-of-10 passes thrown his way for 103 yards and a touchdown. Shanahan said Evans has been "everything as advertised as a person and a player" on Friday.
The 33-year-old is in his first year with the 49ers after spending the rest of his career in Tampa Bay. Evans set an NFL record by hauling in at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 seasons, also tying Niners legend Jerry Rice for the most consecutive years, period. But Evans' streak ended last season after he missed eight games with a broken collarbone, hamstring injury and a concussion.
The 49ers, with Evans expected to suit up, will kick off against the Cardinals at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, with the game televised on Fox.
