‘Pat McAfee Saved Sports Media,’ ‘Can’t Get Enough of This Guy’ — CFB Fans Heap Praise on ESPN Star After ‘College GameDay’
· Yahoo Sports
Pat McAfee’s latest College GameDay appearance was chaotic, controversial, and entertaining… to some people, at least.
He made the trip to Oxford for the showdown between the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels and gave the internet plenty to talk about.

McAfee caught heat from some fans for his “fake” Southern accent and drew criticism for a comment about the U.S. military. But many viewers also found him the life of the broadcast. It was the quintessential Pat McAfee experience: divisive and impossible to ignore.
Pat McAfee’s Unfiltered Style Continues to Divide Viewers
The 185th Aviation Bridge of the Mississippi Army National Guard sent helicopters soaring over the set, and McAfee couldn’t help himself.
“We certainly appreciate the [expletive] out of the American military,” he said, adding, “And if you’re not the United States of America and you hear that sound, your [expletive] better run.”
Many didn’t think that it was the right call for a college football pregame show. Then there was the accent.
While making his pick from The Grove, McAfee suddenly slipped into an exaggerated Southern twang, playing it up for the Oxford crowd before eventually landing on Ole Miss to beat LSU.
It became its own talking point almost instantly, and reactions split right down the middle.
Some viewers thought it was hilarious. Dr. Grizzo gushed that McAfee absolutely nailed the accent.
He wrote, “You never know what hijinks this guy will get up to on camera. He absolutely NAILS this accent. I just can’t get enough of this guy on my TV.”
One fan even joked that McAfee’s electric energy had them pouring a drink, adding that Pat “is one of a kind” once the chants began.

“Whew! I already had to pour me a double shot of whiskey… I might die laughing! Pat truly is one of a kind,” the comment read.
Owen Report host Owen Shroyer went even further, declaring that “Pat McAfee saved sports media.”
Plenty of others jumped in with praise. GBag Nation’s Gavin Dawson declared: “Pat McAfee is the best thing to happen to sports TV in a long time.”
While some critics aimed at McAfee, his supporters were quick to defend him.
When one fan asked if the McAfee era on GameDay was nearing its end, another shot back, saying that anyone who dislikes him can just change the channel.
“If you don’t like him, change the channel. Pat McAfee is A GOAT,” they wrote.
That kind of split reaction has become McAfee’s calling card. He’s a genuinely polarizing figure in sports media, and it’s easy to see why.
Critics argue ESPN has spread McAfee too thin across College GameDay, Monday Night Countdown, and The Pat McAfee Show, making him hard to avoid.
His loud, unfiltered style also rubs some people the wrong way, with detractors calling him an interruptive loudmouth who lets antics drown out actual analysis.

His association with controversial figures, from Aaron Rodgers to political appearances alongside Donald Trump, hasn’t helped his case with skeptics either.
On the other hand, his fans see all of that as exactly what makes him worth watching. They point to his authenticity, his energy, and his refusal to sound like every other buttoned-up broadcaster on television.
