Two-Time White Sox All-Star Announces Immediate Retirement

Two-time Chicago White Sox All-Star Tim Anderson announced his retirement on Monday.
Anderson was with the White Sox from 2016-2023, and the team posted a tribute video for him on X. They will also hold a pregame ceremony for him on September 17.

He made his debut in 2016, playing in 19 games and slashing .283/.306/.432. The following season, he hit 17 home runs, but had an OPS below .700. The 2018 season was not much better, but in 2019, he realy broke out. He won the American League batting title and had the best batting average in all of baseball. He hit 18 homers and posted an .865 OPS.
He once again played well during the pandemic-shortened season, but his best seasons came in 2021 and 2022. He was an All-Star in both seasons, posting a .306/.338/.440 slash line across 202 games. However, he started to decline in 2023.
In 2023, he had a .582 OPS in 123 games. He had signed a six-year extension in 2017 that included a club option for 2024. The Whjite Sox declined the option, and he ended up with the Miami Marlins. He played in 65 games for the Marlins before he was released.
He then signed with the Los Angeles Angels, but only appeared in 31 big league games before being released. He has not played in a regular-season game since May 25, 2025, and did not sign with any organization this year.
Anderson delivered some iconic moments for the White Sox during his run of success. Fans will never forget his walk-off home run in the Field of Dreams Game. He helped take the White Sox to the postseason twice and will be recognized in a ceremony this year, as the White Sox look to make the postseason for the first time since Anderson helped get them there in 2021.
