The Yankees hitters stated the obvious after yet another putrid offensive effort on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.

“I mean, it’s super frustrating, especially when it’s such a close game and going into extras. It just sucks,” second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., who is 2-for-23 in his last 7 games with 10 strikeouts, told Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network following a 2-1 loss that spoiled a brilliant pitching performance by Cam Schlittler.
The Yankees offense managed just one run in 10 innings on a Trent Grisham solo homer in the eighth. They had runners in scoring position twice in the last two innings but couldn’t score.

As they continue to play without Aaron Judge, Cody Belinger and Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees have scored two runs or fewer in seven of their last 10 games. The offense is 6-for-68 (.088) with runners in scoring position in the last 10 games.
“We’ve done a pretty good job up and down of having great at-bats, we’re just not getting the results,” catcher Austin Wells, who is batting .281 in his last 14 games and is hitting .175 for the season, told the YES Network. “But our guys on the mound are keeping us in it.”
The Yankees enter their off day on Monday 5 1/2 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, 6 back in the loss column and it increasingly looks like their hopes of winning the division may be lost.
“We had better at-bats as a club, but still we gotta find a way to push it across,” manager Aaron Boone told reporters.
