The 25-year-old will become the first representative in the sport at Commonwealth Games level for 64 years.
He had finished just outside the top eight in the Commonwealth in the 110kg category but organisers award one bipartite invite per weight division and Dodds was given the selection in his class.
It means Jersey will have 22 athletes at this summer’s event in five sports.
"This news is a welcome surprise," said Dodds, who follows Cliff Heuze who lifted for the island in the 1958 and 1962 Commonwealth Games.
"I had come to terms with narrowly missing out on Glasgow initially but now, knowing I'm going to be representing Jersey on the biggest stage, I cannot wait. I'm absolutely thrilled."
Jersey's Chef de Mission Jean Cross added: "Olly fully deserves this invite and we're delighted that he'll be joining us in Glasgow next month.
"We're incredibly proud to be taking a team of 22 athletes to the Games, across five sports, and we're looking forward to watching them all in action."
