After the historic UFC event concluded on Sunday night, the promotion aired a virtual interview between the two rivals hosted by longtime color commentator Joe Rogan. McGregor and Holloway took the time to banter back and forth, hyping their clash rather than the two answering in-depth questions from the world's most famous podcaster.
McGregor: "You said the best boxer? We're going to see. No. 1 pound-for-pound featherweight? After I beat you at featherweight? We're going to see now."
Holloway: "I'm going to be 1-0 against him, then we're going to rematch at the end of the year. That's what's going to happen."
McGregor: "I son'd him at that weight. I listened to people throughout the years say, 'They were only kids back then.' Sorry. ‘Holloway was only a kid back then.’ I was not. ... Max had his sixth UFC fight. He was my second.
"No disrespect, Max. You're not going to lay a glove on me, and even if you do, I'm going to laugh in your face. It's another world here against me, and it's another world at this weight. I'm going to come out of this bout unscathed and in all glory. ... I'm going toonna come out of this fight unscathed and go again."
McGregor defeated Holloway in their first fight via unanimous decision at UFC Boston in August 2013. Both men went on to hold UFC featherweight gold and eventually moved to the lightweight division. In their rematch, they'll compete at 170 pounds as welterweights. The bout will be Holloway's first in the division and McGregor's third.
For the 37-year-old McGregor, the fight will also mark his Octagon return since suffering a devastating leg break against Dustin Poirier in July 2021 at UFC 264.
