Smart wasn’t the only football coach on hand in Charles Schwab Field on this day. Former Oklahoma coaches Bob Stoops and Barry Switzer watched the Sooners beat Alabama 9-0.

Smart also attended Georgia wins in the NCAA Regional and NCA Super Regional in Athens.

He told the Athens Banner-Herald this week he was “dying to,” go to Omaha for the game.

“You don’t ever know when you’re going to go back,” he said. “It’s been a long time since we were there.”

Georgia entered the College World Series leading the nation in home runs with 174.

“Just a lot of tenacity and a lot of confidence,” Smart said. “They play with a little bit of a swagger and have a lot of confidence they’re going to score runs. They have really good at bats and their approach is good. There’s some hard outs everywhere and there’s power all over the lineup. They just seem very resilient to me because there were games they’ve been in, they never think they’re out of a game.”
