The Iowa football team is gearing up for a prime-time matchup with the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday night. The Hawkeyes will now have to prepare for some different looks from the Boilermaker defense.
ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported that Purdue has fired defensive coordinator Kevin Kane following a 34-29 loss to Maryland. Tim Lester and Iowa's offense will have to draw up plays for a defense that could look completely different from what they've put on tape.

The move isn't shocking, given how Purdue's defense has performed this season. The Boilermakers are giving up 32.3 points per game, which is 124th in the FBS. They're also surrendering 415.4 yards of total offense per game, which ranks 123rd in the FBS. Opposing offenses have walked up and down the field on Purdue's defense, prompting them to make this change.
This is a good matchup for an Iowa offense that's finding a nice rhythm recently. The Hawkeyes are running the ball better, and Hank Brown looks the best he's looked all season under center. It could be shaping up to be another strong night for the Hawkeye offense.
Iowa and Purdue will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT next Saturday inside Kinnick Stadium. The game can be seen on NBC.
