After absorbing a $50 million buyout to let Norvell go, fans of the Seminoles needed a big win. And even though the fans got their big win, one play did add another embarrassing moment to a season chock-full of them.
Boston College’s ‘theatre kid antics’ get the best of Florida State
During the third quarter of their game against the Florida State Seminoles, Boston College were at 2nd and Goal when they attempted a unique play.
After a bizarre moving huddle, the Eagles pulled off a trick play with a fake handoff before Mason McKenzie made an underhand pass to Javarius Green for a touchdown.
Understandably, many fans pointed out how bizarre it was to see this trick play, which was made famous by 1974’s hit movie, The Longest Yard, starring Burt Reynolds, who was also an alumnus of Florida State.
One fan wrote: “No way the ‘ring around the rosy’ huddle worked.”
However, a Seminoles fan shared a screenshot of the result and mocked Boston College: “Hope the theatre kid antics were worth it.”
A third fan pointed out the history of the play in the NFL: “Didn’t Andy Reid do the same thing when he first got to KC?”
A fourth fan loyal to Florida State paid little attention to the embarrassing play: “Norvell was fired, and change is coming. We’re good.”
However, a fifth fan suggested the firing of Mike Norvell played a part: “When you fire your head coach, you’re not really expecting much out of the rest of the season.”
And lastly, one final fan pointed out how absurd it was to criticise the Seminoles: “Boston College runs a weird play, then loses the game and somehow you think this is FSU hitting a new low?”
Fans of the Seminoles will be hoping that this trick play will be the last of the embarrassing moments for them this season.
