To say Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is off to a hot start to the 2026-27 NBA season would be an incredible understatement. The six-time All-Star’s offensive outburst has led the Lakers to an 8-2 record and atop the Western Conference Standings. They are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for the best record in the league. While the NBA world marvels at Doncic’s feats, teammate Austin Reaves saw this coming.

Near the start of last season, Luka Doncic dropped 91 points in two games (45.5 average) for the Lakers, albeit going 1-1. Through 10 games played, Doncic is averaging 40.1 points, ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin recently reposted his article where Austin Reaves correctly predicted that this was coming.

Reaves not only said that Doncic could average 40 points a game, but that it would help the team win. And that’s certainly what Doncic has been doing to start the year. In his last four games, he’s dropped 45, 42, 40 and 53 points, all Laker wins. And he’s been doing so on high efficiency. He’s shooting 49.8 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from the 3-point line, both career-highs.

In addition to his scoring, he’s also averaging 7.8 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.7 steals, making an impact on both ends of the court. Not only is he leading the league in scoring, but also in field goals made (12.2) and attempted (24.6), 3-pointers made (5.8) and attempted (13.8) and free-throws made (9.9) and attempted (11.3).

The Lakers will put their four-game win streak on the line when they visit the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, Nov. 8. However, the team might be without their offensive ace as Doncic was listed as questionable on the front end of a back-to-back.
