Bad News For Hornets As Kon Knueppel’s Long-Awaited Season Debut Gets Cut Short
· Yahoo Sports
The Charlotte Hornets’ star, Kon Knueppel, made his season debut tonight against the Brooklyn Nets after missing the first eight games due to a left hamstring strain.

But unfortunately, the 21-year-old’s highly anticipated season debut was cut short six minutes into the first quarter. Kon Knueppel dribbled the ball off his left foot, began limping, and was soon sidelined for the rest of the game.
The Charlotte Hornets say Kon Knueppel will not return to tonight’s game due to “soreness in his left leg,” likely the same injury that kept him out for the first 8 games of the season. 🤕

“Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel made his season debut tonight but is now ruled out in the first quarter with left leg discomfort,” NBA insider Chris B. Haynes reported.
Kon Knueppel was looking to hit the ground running, as he did last season, amid an unsettling 3-5 start to 2026-27.
“Just excited to get out there with the guys, a couple of new guys I haven’t played with yet since I got injured,” Knueppel said during his pregame interview.
“It sucks,” Knueppel added about what it feels like to be sidelined instead of playing. “But you’ve just got to figure out other ways you can affect the team when you can’t play. So I feel like I did a good job of focusing on those, just being a leader for the guys, telling them what I see.”
“But it’s obviously a bit different when you get out there and play. Going through those things with the guys is a better feeling,” he added.
“Hopefully I can contribute in a capacity similar to last year, and with all the offseason work that I put in, even more. It might take me a little bit to get to that full capability, but tonight I’ll be ready to go and help us get a win,” Knueppel said in a concluding message to the Hornets fans ahead of the debut.
Knueppel finished with three points in six minutes, all from the free-throw line.
Going from a rookie season where he came neck-and-neck with Cooper Flagg for the Rookie of the Year award to now sitting on the sidelines and watching the team play without him must be frustrating for Kon Knueppel.
He ended his rookie season averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting 47.5% from the field and 42.5% from the three-point line.
With Knueppel now central to the team’s rebuild after LaMelo Ball, he could have easily averaged over 20 points per game, showing the clear dent his absence causes to the Hornets’ offense.
Usually, soreness isn’t something to worry about, but since it is in the same leg that caused him to miss the first eight games, it’s potentially concerning for fans.
The Hornets will now hope Kon Knueppel’s early exit is merely precautionary and not a recurrence of his hamstring injury, as another prolonged absence would be a significant setback for the franchise.
