Michigan's final high school football district semifinal will be played Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Grand Rapids Catholic Central (7-2) will host Comstock Park (4-5) in the 128th district semifinal of the 2026 postseason at CC's field on Tuesday, according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association's website. The school confirmed to the Free Press it will host the game Tuesday night.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday, along with the majority of other first-round playoff matchups in Michigan, but it was removed from the schedule on Thursday. The MHSAA announced it was withdrawing Grand Rapids Catholic Central, which entered the postseason as the top-seeded team in Division 5 with a 7-2 record, for the use of an ineligible player during the regular season.

Using an ineligible player means a team must forfeit the games in which they participated, which took five wins off GRCC's resume and left the Cougars without the requisite playoff points to make the final 32.

In response to the MHSAA's decision, the school released a statement saying the student in question transferred to the school in January 2026. His family moved over the summer, and the school received a letter from the MHSAA confirming his athletic eligibility, according to Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

In mid-October, the MHSAA notified Grand Rapids CC that it had received new information about the family's residence, reopening an inquiry whether the student completed a "full and complete move" to satisfy the MHSAA's rules regarding athletic transfers. The school held the player out of the final two regular season games.

Late on Friday, a Kent County judge granted a Grand Rapids Catholic Central student a temporary restraining order against the MHSAA's decision, ordering the state association to reinstate the Cougars in the Division 5 playoff field, pending a show-cause hearing on Friday, Nov. 6. The order said the game against Comstock Park had to be played by the end of Tuesday.

The game will also force the MHSAA to work around its weekly playing limits for high school football players. According to the 2026-27 coaches' guidebook, "a student may participate in no more than one game in a day [four quarters in a day] and in no more than five quarters in a week."

In an email to the Free Press, the MHSAA said, "By rule, a team can play one game over five calendar days," which means the earliest the district final could be scheduled is Sunday, Nov. 8. The winner will advance to face Berrien Springs (9-1), which beat Lakewood 34-28 in overtime on Friday.

Catholic Central, ranked No. 3 in Division 5, was considered one of the favorites to reach Ford Field entering the postseason. Comstock Park finished the regular season 4-5 and the 31st-seeded team in the D-5 playoff field based on MHSAA playoff points.
