Faced with a 42-7 deficit early in the fourth quarter, the Colts sent out Anthony Richardson Sr., replacing the quarterback Indianapolis signed to a two-year, $88 million extension because Steichen believed Jones could get the team to the playoffs.
Jones has instead turned in his worst season in the NFL.
And it does not appear that it’s because of the Achilles tendon. Jones has been uncertain in the pocket, struggling to read defenses and get the ball to open receivers. Jones was 19 of 28 for 144 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions on Sunday, prompting Steichen to go to Richardson.
Richardson has not played since getting mop-up duty on Oct. 5 of 2025. He suffered a severe eye injury the next week when a resistance-band accident led to him undergoing surgery for a fractured orbital bone.
