Woodhouse placed 29th overall with a time of 19:08, breaking her own school record of 19:17 set at last year’s regional meet.
Woodhouse is set to make her first appearance at the state cross country meet after reaching the state track meet in the 1600-meter run last spring.
The girls race will start at noon Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.
“Alette has been within striking distance of individual advancement the last two years, and we were really shooting for it this year,” Logan coach Kailin Bauman said. “That race required going out hard and holding on, and her efforts were rewarded with a new school record and an advancement to state meet.”
Carmel, Avon, Zionsville, Heritage Christian and Brownsburg advanced to the State Finals as a team. Terre Haute North sophomore Addyson Bautista was the regional champion in 16:32. In a regional field that spanned from Lafayette to Terre Haute to Indianapolis, the state cut time was 19:14.
Logansport competed at the regional as a team after winning the first sectional and conference meets in program history this year. The Berries placed 15th out of 24 teams at the regional.
Berry regional runners also included sophomore Kyndra Ely (116th, 21:25), senior Kate Spradling (130th, 21:45), sophomore Aaliyah Ramirez (163rd, SB 22:15), freshman Cadence James (185th, 23:00), freshman Samantha Richie (201st, 23:41) and junior Yari Sanchez-Olmos (228th, 25:38).
“After a truly historic season for the program, we just wanted to see what would happen if we just ran hard,” Bauman said. “This meant fast miles and holding on for the remainder of the race. That, and having some fun.
“It is an honor to have had the opportunity to return to regionals as a team. This meet was not a guarantee on our schedule. Our varsity team, with the exception of Alette, has wrapped up a winning season and as we look forward to what next season may hold, we want to thank our senior, Kate Spradling, for her dedication, effort and commitment to LXC.”
Cass placed 22nd as a team. Junior Hope Rush placed 103rd in 21:03 to lead the Kings, followed by senior Brystalin Gillem (168th, 22:25), freshman Ellisynn Guy (170th, 22:26), senior Mia Hall (215th, 24:12), senior Laney Davis (222nd, 24:49), senior Lillian Hammond (223rd, 24:49) and sophomore Anna Roeske (226th, 25:14).
“A huge shoutout to Alette for qualifying for state this season,” Cass coach Denise Rush said. “I am proud of my girls as they finished with grit and teamwork at the Brownsburg Regional. I was blessed with awesome senior leaders who poured into their teammates by pushing them in practice all season and especially in their final meet of the season. Hope led the team with a great start and found a kick at the end. She is already talking about coming back next year healthy, stronger and faster as she has been recovering from an injury most the season.
“Senior Mia Hall ran her all-time best time and has been so consistent all season. This is due to her hard work in the offseason as she came to every summer conditioning and ran on her own. Freshman Ellie Guy ran her all-time best 5K with the help of senior teammate, Brystalin Gillem, as they pushed each other the whole race. Seniors Lilly Hammond and Laney Davis also ran together and pushed each other to run their season-best times. Anna Roeske ran her best time at conference to make the top 7 and has been amazing as she also competed in the semi-state band competition right after her race, who are now headed to the state in two weeks.
“I am blessed with a team that enjoys spending time together and am thankful to my alternates and their teammates who came and helped cheer on our runners.”
Pioneer had a pair of freshmen compete at the regional. Brylie Caudle placed 117th in 21:26 and Jolene Kennell placed 120th in 21:32.
Caston junior Hannah Rogers placed 150th in 22:03.
BOYS MEET
Pioneer senior Dane Bowditch has led the area boys this year but has been battling respiratory issues and didn’t have his best showing Saturday.
To add insult to injury, he finished the race but his time was not officially recorded. He crossed the finish line in 208th place in about 18:40.
“For some reason my bib didn’t register at the finish line of the race at Brownsburg,” Bowditch said. “I’m not sure why as I distinctly remember taking it off a few minutes after the race, so I’m sure that it was still on when I crossed the line. I’m not entirely sure on my time or placing but I believe my time was around 18:40 to 18:45.
“Although some of the highlights/races of my season were strong, I still am a little bit disappointed with my season as a whole as I battled sickness for the majority of the season. ... I thought I’d be able to push through but after the first mile or so I realized that it wasn’t gonna end well so I just tried to take my last cross country race in and enjoy it.”
Bowditch added he was happy for his cousin Woodhouse and that he’s looking forward to healing up for the spring sports season.
“Huge shoutout to Alette as well as a shoutout to all the other area runners,” he said. “I’m looking forward to a couple months off to fully recover and I plan on coming back stronger and faster than ever for track and golf.”
Logansport competed at the regional as a team and placed 25th. Sophomore Kaled Hernandez placed 177th in 18:00 to lead the Berries, followed by senior Anthony Zarate (180th, 18:06), freshman Sean Martin (193rd, 18:17), junior Jack Leeman (213th, 18:53), senior Eli Schurter (228th, 19:32), freshman Drew VanHorn (230th, 19:57) and junior Oscar Sevilla (244th, 21:39).

The boys state meet begins at 1 p.m. Saturday in Terre Haute.
