The Indianapolis Colts have officially started making major roster changes, and star cornerback Sauce Gardner could be the next big name to watch ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

Following Tuesday’s blockbuster trade that sent eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, speculation is growing that Indianapolis could move additional stars as the franchise begins rebuilding.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Colts traded Nelson to Seattle in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round selection.
With reports suggesting nobody is untouchable, Gardner could become an intriguing trade candidate, although Indianapolis has not publicly indicated that it is shopping the cornerback.
The Colts acquired Gardner from the New York Jets in 2025, surrendering two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. However, Indianapolis’ disappointing 2-5 start and the firing of general manager Chris Ballard have changed the franchise’s outlook.
If Gardner becomes available, three teams could emerge as potential destinations.
Detroit could make an aggressive push for Gardner to strengthen its secondary. Pairing him with the Lions’ defensive talent would give Detroit another proven playmaker as it pursues a championship.
Carolina could explore pairing Gardner with standout cornerback Jaycee Horn. Adding another former All-Pro would immediately strengthen the Panthers’ pass defense and create one of the NFL’s most intriguing cornerback combinations.
San Francisco could also enter the conversation. Gardner’s coverage abilities would provide another weapon for a defense looking to remain among the league’s best.
What’s Next for Indianapolis?
The Nelson trade sends a clear message that Indianapolis is willing to make difficult decisions.
In my opinion, the Colts should listen to offers for Gardner, but moving him would require significant compensation.
With the November 10 trade deadline approaching, the biggest question is whether Nelson’s departure was just the beginning of a much larger roster overhaul.
