The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t had much go right so far this season, currently sitting at 1-5 after a recent home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime. The Buccaneers have played the last few weeks without quarterback Baker Mayfield, who went down in the third game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings and has since been replaced by Jalon Daniels in a backup role.

On Wednesday, the team got a massive update on Mayfield’s status moving forward.
“Bucs coach Todd Bowles said he anticipates making a decision about quarterback Baker Mayfield on Friday. He said he threw the ball well today and did well in what he was asked to do. They split reps up. A big thing will be how he feels tomorrow after a day of practice,” reported Jenna Laine of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

Buccaneers fans are certainly hoping to have Mayfield back in the lineup sooner rather than later as they gear up for this weekend’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Daniels has had some strong moments during his tenure as the team’s starter, most notably in a recent road win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, but he has also made several of the mistakes that one would expect from an undrafted rookie, including a brutal interception late in the team’s loss to the Steelers on Sunday.
In any case, the Buccaneers will next hit the field on Sunday afternoon for a game vs the divisional rival Panthers at 1:00 pm ET on the road.
