Adi Hütter shuffled his pack in two positions following the home game against Freiburg before the international break, with Nnamdi Collins and Ansgar Knauff replacing Elias Baum and Younes Ebnoutalib.

Early setback

Eintracht fell behind after just 43 seconds when Andrija Maksimovic delivered a cross from the right, finding the unmarked Ezechiel Banzuzi, who tapped in from six metres to make it 1-0.

The hosts doubled their lead five minutes later. Collins slipped while challenging for the ball, allowing Antonio Nusa to play a pass from the left into the area, where Christopher Nkunku steered the ball into the far corner from the edge of the six-yard box.

Chances for Frankfurt

Eintracht began to pose more of an attacking threat after half an hour and created several good chances. Jonathan Burkardt played a perfectly weighted backheel into the path of Ritsu Doan, but the Japan international was denied by Maarten Vandevoordt in a one-on-one situation. The Leipzig goalkeeper also produced excellent saves to keep out efforts from Knauff (38’) and Burkardt (39’).

Blow before the break

Just as Eintracht were enjoying their best spell of the game, Hütter’s side were hit by two quickfire goals from Nkunku (41’, 44’), leaving them trailing 4-0 at half-time.

Ebnoutalib and Baum come on

Hütter responded to the state of play by bringing on Ebnoutalib and Baum for Keita Kosugi and Robin Koch at half-time.

Nusa on target

However, Eintracht’s rearguard was breached far too easily again in the 55th minute when Antonio Nusa dribbled into the penalty area and fired home from 14 metres to make it 5-0 to the hosts.

Little went Eintracht’s way thereafter on a disappointing evening. Vandevoordt was on hand to deny Knauff once again (70’) and also came out on top in two situations against Uzun (83’, 87’).
