The No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes aim to win their fifth game of the campaign on Saturday as they take on the Maryland Terrapins. While all eyes are on Jeremiah Smith and his greatness, it appears one anonymous rival coach believes quarterback Julian Sayin is actually what makes this team so special. So much so that this program might just be the best team in the Big Ten by a mile.

In Bruce Feldman’s latest column for The Athletic, the anonymous rival coach is wildly impressed with how the junior signal-caller runs the Buckeyes’ offense. Although Sayin may not make too many “wow” throws in the 31-14 Week 5 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, his decision-making in the pocket has helped lift Ohio State’s offense above the rest of the nation.

“The game [Julian] Sayin just played against Iowa is one of the better games I’ve seen a quarterback play,” the anonymous coach said. “It wasn’t like all these ‘wow’ throws, but it felt like perfect quarterback plays. It’s not there. Threw it away. About to get hit. [But he] hangs in there and still throws a very accurate ball. He understands the timing of a play.

“He got hit a lot in that game, but his clock didn’t speed up,” the rival coach continued. “His footwork was really, really sharp. He was super accurate the whole day. He pushed the ball down the field and took check-downs. They’ll be really hard to beat when quarterbacks play like that.”

Julian Sayin has been solid through the first five games of the season. He enters the matchup against Maryland with 1,530 passing yards and 13 touchdowns while leading the Big Ten with a 72.5% completion percentage. He’s also leading the conference in pass yards per attempt (10.8) and pass yards per game (306.0).

We’ll see saying and the Buckeyes kick off against the Terrapins on Saturday. That game will begin at 4:15 p.m. EST.
