A few seasons ago, the Boston Celtics had, by far, the best roster in the NBA, with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and some other above-average role players.
It was unfortunate that the Celtics had to break up that team because of the eventual second-apron problems it would create, but that's the harsh reality of the NBA nowadays.
As for some of those guys, not everybody is still around, as only Tatum and White are.
Brown was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, Porzingis is now with the Golden State Warriors and is dealing with health issues, and Holiday is with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Holiday is still a very good player in his own right, but not what he used to be. As for what that could mean for him and the loaded Blazers guard room, now including Ja Morant and Damian Lillard, it was recently suggested that if Morant and Lillard play at the level everyone hopes for, Holiday could become available.
“Portland has Jrue Holiday, and though there are no plans to move him just yet, he would fetch the best return. If Morant and Lillard hold up, health-wise, Holiday could be a top NBA trade rumor piece this winter, especially for contenders looking for an experienced piece to put them over the top.
“Holiday has championships with the Bucks and Celtics, and is considered one of the best teammates in the league,” Sean Deveney wrote.
Holiday would fit nearly any NBA team trying to win at a high level, as he proved with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Celtics, helping both teams win a championship.
As for teams that could use him, the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors are the first two that come to mind. Both need talent and defensive improvement, something Holiday provides.
