White Sox fans pumped for Game 4 as area bars take in big business

CHICAGO (WGN) - White Sox fans are out and about again ahead of Game 4 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians.

Despite losing Game 3 on Wednesday, fans still have faith that the White Sox can punch their ticket to the ALCS with a win.

The White Sox have not clinched a postseason series at home since the 1906 World Series featuring the White Sox and Chicago Cubs. A ticket back then was about 50 cents to one dollar, equal to about $18 in today's dollars.

That same year, the Victor/Victrola was introduced. The technology led to the more modern record player and recorded music industry.

The modern air conditioner also took shape in 1906. The first patent was filed for colling homes ever since.

Finally, the most popular best-selling car in that year was the Ford Model N Runabout. It cost about $500, boasting a 15-horsepower, four-cylinder engine and two-speed manual transmission.

If you're curious, a gallon of gasoline in 1906 cost about 15 cents. When adjusted for modern inflation, that's about $5.40 a gallon today.

The bars nearby Rate Field are cashing in on playoff fever.

At the Redwood Lounge, playoff baseball means big business and big bucks.

During Wednesday's Game 3, the bar said they had about 350% more sales than an average Wednesday. That is the power of playoff baseball, more than three-times the regular business.

That was the expectation on Thursday as well for Game 4, if the game was going to be played in the afternoon. Instead, the game was moved back to 7 p.m. and that means an even bigger bonus for area bars.

The Redwood Lounge is estimating about 400% to 500% more sales compared to an average Thursday.

"We got big orders coming tomorrow getting ready for the ALCS, preemptively, don't want to jinx anything, but we feel good about it," Redwood Lounge owner Sean Wagner said. "As long of a playoff run as possible, including a World Series victory, that would be incredible, fingers crossed."

First pitch for Game 4 of the ALDS between the White Sox and Guardians is set for 7 p.m.

If the White Sox win, they advance to play the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS. A Guardians win, however, forces a series-deciding Game 5 in Cleveland on Saturday.
