Should Packers fans be worried about Micah Parsons’ latest practice update?

· Yahoo Sports

The Green Bay Packers have finally reached the point where Micah Parsons can begin working toward a return, but the wait for their biggest defensive addition is becoming longer than initially hoped.

Green Bay is 2-2 after Sunday’s 17-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, keeping the season on track despite Parsons remaining unavailable. The problem is that the schedule is about to become much less forgiving, making the timing of his return increasingly important.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Parsons will not practice this week as he continues recovering from the torn ACL and meniscus injury that ended his 2025 season. LaFleur stressed that Parsons has not suffered a setback and described the delay as part of the normal recovery process.

That is the encouraging part of the update. There is no new injury threatening Parsons’ recovery, and the Packers can still open his 21-day practice window when he is cleared. But the fact that he is not ready to practice after becoming eligible to return is significant because every additional week pushes his potential debut further into the season.

The original optimism had centered around a Week 6 return against the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons’ former team. That possibility now looks considerably less realistic. Green Bay would need to get him onto the practice field soon to have a realistic chance of getting him ready for that October 18 matchup.

Tom Pelissero’s November warning makes the timeline more concerning for Green Bay

The bigger reason for concern came Saturday, when The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reported that Parsons was not expected to practice the following week and that it could be November before he is ready for game action. Pelissero also emphasized that Parsons has had no setbacks in his rehabilitation.

A November return would mean Parsons could miss a critical stretch of Green Bay’s schedule. The Packers host the Chicago Bears on October 11 before welcoming the Cowboys on October 18 and traveling to face the Detroit Lions on October 25. They then host the Carolina Panthers on October 29 before visiting the New England Patriots on November 8.

Green Bay has little room to coast through a difficult portion of the schedule, and the Packers are about to face three NFC opponents with major implications. Parsons was acquired to transform this defense, so waiting until November could leave Green Bay trying to survive the toughest part of its schedule without the player expected to make the biggest difference.
