PREPS: Altoona girls pick up win at home cross country meet

ALTOONA — The Altoona girls cross country team earned the team win at its Altoona Invitational on Saturday at the Tower Ridge County Park.

Five Railroaders claimed top-25 team placements, with Elodie Larson and Alaina Lebeis leading the way in seventh and eighth, respectively, to finish with 73 points, two ahead of second-place Boyceville’s 75.

Behind Larson and Lebeis, Lily Ganske claimed 12th, Ella Hoage 21st and Brooke Grooves 25th.

Elk Mound took home fifth place, followed by Eau Claire Regis in sixth. The Ramblers had the higher individual finisher in Ellie Doubler, who claimed third ahead of the Mounders’ Emma Ottosen, who finished sixth.

Ellsworth took the team and individual win on the boys side, finishing with 47 points and with Adolfo Mendez leading the pack.

Elk Mound finished third with 71 points, ahead of Regis fourth with 84, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran fifth with 112 and Altoona sixth with 127.

Regis’ Benjamin Hoeft claimed third in 17:25, followed by teammate Mark Patchin in seventh and Andrew Hoeft in 15th.

Elk Mound’s Jack Stroh finished seventh in 17:32, 10 seconds ahead of Altoona’s Dean Kretz.
