Week 4 of the NFL season featured most gaffes from referees than usual, and fans of all teams certainly noticed.

NFL officials had their fair share of moments with NFL players and coaches, as Mike Vrabel and Trey McBride were among those who had issues with with them. While those moments didn't necessarily lead to major changes in their games, they did highlight how frustrating fans are sometimes with the officials.

As the league heads into Week 5, it will have to address several situations in which the referees may have crossed the line and inserted themselves into the game too much. Here's why fans were so frustrated by the officiating on Sunday.

NFL fans blast referees

The NFL referees had their fare share of issues on Sunday, which came across in a few different games. In the Arizona Cardinals game against the New York Giants, an official was caught saying "f*** you" to tight end Trey McBride when McBride was arguing a call.

Additionally, in the New England Patriots win over the Buffalo Bills, Mike Vrabel was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for using profane language at referee Bill Vinovich.

And of course, in the Minnesota Vikings victory vs. the Miami Dolphins, referee Adrian Hill got heated at linebacker Eric Wilson after he was knocked over during a dead ball.

All of that led to fans criticizing NFL referees over the course of the afternoon as they were frustrated by the moments that went viral.

Bad calls are always a talking point in the NFL, but Sunday's output of games included more controversial referee moments than usual. It is no surprise, then, that the fans were particularly frustrated with the officials.
