BATON ROUGE — Through five games of the Lane Kiffin era, LSU football has had two games where it has scored more than 50 points.

LSU opened the season putting up 51 points against Clemson in a win and it tallied 63 points against instate FCS opponent McNeese State Saturday, Oct. 3. The Tigers handled the Cowboys, 63-14, inside Tiger Stadium Saturday night.

Mostly importantly, Kiffin and his coaching staff were able to rest their starters as LSU scored the team's first 49 points en route to the blowout win. Quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for three touchdowns on 18 for 23 passing along with 176 yards.

The Tigers' run game exploded against McNeese for 367 yards and three separate tailbacks rushed for at 79 yards. Sophomore Harlem Berry led the group with 15 rushes for 125 yards and his first touchdown of the 2026 season.

LSU football rankings, Week 5

The Tigers (4-1, 1-1 SEC) kicked off October with an easy victory over FCS's McNeese. And it was needed for Kiffin and his team as they are about to embark on a difficult stretch with seven straight SEC games. None of LSU's last seven games, with the exception of Arkansas in the regular season finale, will be cake walks.

In this week's US LBM Coaches Poll, LSU is up one spot, getting back inside the top 10 at No. 10 in the rankings.

LSU's tough stretch begins with a road trip to No. 25 Kentucky (4-1, 2-1), who is coming off an overtime win at South Carolina.
