CBC announced Monday that Hockey Night in Canada will partner with the PWHL beginning Dec. 5, providing coverage of eight primetime games throughout the league’s upcoming fourth season. Each broadcast will include pre-game and post-game panel shows, continuing the program’s established tradition of combining live hockey with analysis and discussion.

The first game of the new era will feature the defending Walter Cup champion Montreal Victoire visiting Hamilton’s new expansion team. The PWHL is expected to begin its fourth season in late November or early December, with Hamilton among four new franchises joining the league this year alongside teams in Detroit, Las Vegas and San Jose.

“Our new partnership with the PWHL opens a new chapter in sports history,” said Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of Sports and Olympics.

Moving beyond Saturday night hockey

The new partnership follows a major change for CBC. On June 16, 2026, the network announced that it would no longer broadcast NHL games on Saturday nights after failing to reach an agreement with national rights holder Rogers Sportsnet.

The move marks a significant change for Hockey Night in Canada, which has long been associated with Saturday-night NHL coverage. Its new PWHL partnership will instead give the program a prominent role in showcasing professional women’s hockey as the league continues to expand.

CBC/Radio-Canada will also hold the exclusive Canadian audio broadcast rights to all Montreal Victoire games during the 2026-27 season. With four new expansion teams and continued growth following its first three seasons, the PWHL is entering a pivotal year, while Hockey Night in Canada begins its 90th season with a distinctly different lineup.
