Packers Film Room: Long snapping on kicks in Week 3

In this space, we look at the snap-to-hold operation on field goals and extra points. We only have 3 that we’re looking at this week, but we get an interesting look from the Falcons field goal block unit that we’ll take a slightly deeper look at. But, for starters, how was the snap location this week?
Pretty good this week. All 3 snaps solidly in the green. The only one that was over the spot of the hold was actually the field goal attempt that was blocked.

Kick 1: Extra Point (Made)Snap to the body. Clean catch. Clean hold. Smack knocks it through.
Kick 2: 47 yard Field Goal (Blocked)We’ll watch the video first. As I mentioned, snap is clean over the hold point. Clean hold. You want the operation to take 1.3 seconds and the Packers were right on that (I have it at 1.34, but my stopwatch skills are not always to be trusted).
We’re gonna keep an eye on these three guys:
On the first attempt, it was just a pure power move by that group of dudes. Jacob Monk [62] and Anthony Belton [71] got low and blocked down. They looked to do the same thing this time. Monk never gets out of his stance which seems like a problem overall, but, for this block, it didn’t really make a difference.
The inside man loops to the other side, crossing the face of Matt Orzech. The middle man drops out. The outside man swims over Belton’s outside shoulder. With Jonathan Ford and Barryn Sorrell blocking out and Belton blocking down, it’s a free lane for Zach Harrison [96], who gets his hand up for the block.
Belton has his arm out to try to slow the path of Harrison, but Harrison runs right through it.
Kick 3: Extra Point (Made)After all that, this last one is pretty straightforward. Snap is to the body. Clean hold, Smack knocks it through. Harrison tries to swim past Belton again, but this time Belton gets a little higher and his arm is in a better position to slow Harrison. Even then, Harrison seems to nearly get a hand on it.
