Red Sox remove Chad Tracy's interim tag, sign manager to 3-year deal

Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox removed Chad Tracy's interim tag and named him permanent manager through 2029, the MLB franchise announced Tuesday.
The Red Sox also exercised their 2029 and 2030 contract options on chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, who joined the franchise in 2023. Tracy took over as interim manager April 26 when the Red Sox fired former skipper Alex Cora. His pact includes a club option for 2030.

"Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways," Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy said in a news release. "Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation.
"Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization.
"What this team has accomplished over the past several months has been historic. Results matter greatly in this business, but so do judgment, character and the ability to bring out the best in others. Craig and Chad have demonstrated all of those qualities, and they have earned our confidence in leading us forward."
Tracy, 41, led the Red Sox to a 74-55 record through the first 129 games of his MLB managerial career. The Red Sox (84-72), who owned the second-worst record (10-17) in the American League the day Tracy assumed his former role, went on to clinch a wild card playoff berth.
Breslow, 46, previously spent time with the Chicago Cubs. The Red Sox went 254-226 over his three seasons in Boston.
The Red Sox will host the Cleveland Guardians (81-75) at 6:45 p.m. EDT Tuesday in Boston. They will host the Cubs (87-69) in their final series of the regular season this weekend at Fenway Park.
