‘Literally Incapable of Criticizing (Justin) Herbert,’ ‘PR Is Wild’ — Fans Mock Ex-NFL QB for Defending Chargers Star’s Struggles

The Los Angeles Chargers entered 2026 expecting Mike McDaniel’s arrival to unlock another level from Justin Herbert. Two weeks later, Los Angeles is 0-2, its offense has scored 14 points in consecutive home losses, and Herbert has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns.
Sunday’s 26-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders gave Dan Orlovsky a different culprit. The former NFL quarterback argued Monday that Herbert was hardly the main problem, pointing instead to dropped passes, protection breakdowns and an offense that looked unprepared.

Dan Orlovsky Defends Justin Herbert After Chargers Loss
“Yesterday wasn’t a Justin Herbert thing,” Orlovskysaid Monday. “There were 6 or 7 legit jaw-dropping drops on that tape, and their interior offensive line is absolutely atrocious right now. The Chargers look remarkably unprepared.”
Orlovsky later described the blocking as “a total disaster” and called the performance “a comedy of errors by everyone but Justin Herbert.”
That defense landed poorly after Herbert completed 15 of 27 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Herbert entered Week 2 already facingearly-season criticism after an uneven opener against the Arizona Cardinals, and PFN’s QB Impact results have moved him further down the board.

Justin Herbert’s Numbers Leave Room for Blame on Both Sides
Herbert now has 401 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions through two games. His 65.5PFN QB Impact score ranks No. 29 among 32 qualifying quarterbacks, with a negative EPA per dropback and a 39.4% success rate.

Orlovsky’s tape-based case still has evidence to support his argument. Herbert was sacked three times, Los Angeles fumbled six times as a team, and the Raiders repeatedly disrupted an offense still adapting to McDaniel’s system.
That does not erase Herbert’s two interceptions or a second straight game in which Los Angeles failed to score more than 14 points. It also does not erase the expectations Orlovsky helped build in August, when he predicted Herbert would be an MVP candidate and the Chargers would field a top-five offense.
Two games later, Herbert is near the bottom of PFN’s quarterback rankings and Los Angeles is winless. Fans were not interested in hearing that everybody except the quarterback deserved the blame.
