But later in the game, the Giants fanbase was given some hope that it might not be too serious, although the MRI's had yet to be done. Unfortunately, Tuesday's update is some brutal news for the Giants.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Dart's injury is "worse than anticipated," and there's a chance that Dart will miss the rest of the 2026 NFL season.
Jaxson Dart's knee injury is 'worse than anticipated' amid season-ending concerns
"Giants QB Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury last night that was worse than anticipated, sources told me and @MikeGarafolo after the MRI," Rapoport reports. "He's out an extended period of time, possibly the season."
While the Giants quarterback isn't officially done for the season, this update from Rapoport is about as bad as it could get without outright saying Dart's season is over.
Monday night, it didn't seem like a season-ending issue. There was some hope he could return in the not-so-distant future. But those hopes are gone after this terrible update from Rapoport.
Dart's knee injury is going to keep him out for much, if not all, of the 2026 season. The Week 2 knee injury is just that serious.

After the optimism Monday night, this update is the worst thing that could've happened to the Giants and Dart. His season is in jeopardy, with this knee injury being more severe than anticipated.
The exact nature of the injury isn't fully known just yet, and the time he'll miss isn't set in stone either. But Dart will miss a large portion of the season, with a stint on Injured Reserve likely.
Dart might miss the rest of the season, which is a massive change in tune from how things initially appeared Monday night shortly after his injury.
