Sam Darnold Fantasy Week 2 Start or Sit: Hold Him, He Is Coming Back

Darnold sits 36th among quarterbacks in PFN’s Week 2 rankings because he is going to miss this trip to Arizona with an unusual muscle strain. Seattle didn’t put much thought into injured reserve, so I expect him back sooner than later, possibly by the end of the month. Realistically, this isn’t impacting most single-QB leagues, and he’ll be leading this ship when byes hit.

Should You Start or Sit Sam Darnold in Week 2?

The career arc of Darnold has been one of the more interesting in recent memory. The past two seasons saw him play every game for his team and pile up the wins. The stats were far from overwhelming last season, but he always showed up and executed.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are going to have to pivot in the short term, however, as Darnold will miss some time with this “unusual muscle strain.”

Realistically, this isn’t impacting most single-QB leagues. He had only seven top-15 finishes a season ago, and the structure of this team is awfully similar. He should only be viewed as a streaming option in optimal situations or when you’re looking for a floor play, and I expect that to be the case when he returns.

The ‘Hawks didn’t put much thought into placing him on injured reserve, so we should expect him back sooner than later (obviously not this week, but possibly by the end of the month with him not landing on IR), and that means he’ll be leading this ship when bye weeks begin to impact your optionality.
