Matt LaFleur’s Future With Packers Questioned After Hostile Fan Reaction Goes Viral
· Yahoo Sports
Matt LaFleur spent his entire offseason promising Green Bay Packers would finally learn how to finish games. Sunday in Minneapolis put that promise to the test immediately. The Packers built a healthy second-half lead, the same type of cushion that slipped away repeatedly last season, and it vanished again. What happened next, both on the field and in the press conference that followed, left fans furious.
Packers’ Second-Half Collapse Under Matt LaFleur
Green Bay looked in control for most of Sunday’s opener at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Packers led 22-10 in the third quarter behind Jordan Love, who threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns. Then everything unraveled. Minnesota Vikings scored 29 unanswered points in the second half, turning a comfortable lead into a 39-22 defeat.

The turning point came in the fourth quarter. With Green Bay up 25-17 after a penalty wiped a Vikings field goal off the board, LaFleur chose to go for it on fourth-and-1 instead of taking the points. Love was stopped on a quarterback sneak, and Minnesota took over on downs. The Vikings never let go from there.

Twelve Packers penalties for 98 yards, several on Minnesota’s go-ahead drive, compounded the damage.
The defense, still missing Micah Parsons as he works back from offseason knee surgery, could not slow Minnesota down once the momentum shifted, extending Green Bay’s losing streak to six straight games dating back to last season.
“The consideration really boiled down to try to make it a two-possession game,” LaFleur said, explaining the decision to go for the touchdown rather than trust the defense to hold off Minnesota’s offense. “It would have been a two-possession game…we’re going to be aggressive and go for the throat in that situation,” LaFleur said postgame.
The final whistle was only the beginning. A video of LaFleur’s postgame press conference began circulating online, and the fan reaction quickly overshadowed the game itself.
Fans Backlash Voices After LaFleur’s Postgame Press Conference
Despite signing a multi-year contract extension back in January, calls for his job flooded social media within minutes. It is not the first time LaFleur has clashed with the fan base either, having previously been caught in a heated exchange with a Detroit fan before a game last December.

Second added, “LMFAO. I’d like the break down of how many of them have only known a Packer team after 93. Y’all should have lived through the 70s and 80s. Just sayin.”
Another quipped, “Downfall of the Packers I love it!”
Others were less focused on the scoreboard and more on the tone of the exchange itself, calling it among the tensest press conferences LaFleur has faced since taking over in Green Bay.
Green Bay Packers now sits at 0-1 with an angry fan base and a short week to regroup. The Packers travel to face the New York Jets in Week 2, while the Vikings head to Chicago looking to build on their come-from-behind win.
