LSU surprisingly lists QB Sam Leavitt as 'doubtful' for highly anticipated clash against Ole Miss Saturday

The Tigers have already declared three players out, but the story is much more than quarterback Sam Leavitt being listed as doubtful.
College injury reports aren’t like the NFL, where teams have to provide a reason. Nothing else has been reported about a possible injury to Leavitt, and there was no obvious play in the Tigers’ Week 2 blowout win over Louisiana Tech that suggested the QB was dealing with an injury.
Still, the starting quarterback is suddenly on the injury report and listed as “doubtful.” If Leavitt can’t play, the Tigers would likely turn to either Landen Clark or Husan Longstreet, the other two QBs who tallied stats in LSU’s first two blowout wins of the season.
This game is the highlight of the Week 3 slate and is one of the biggest games the Tigers will play all season. That is, in part, because they will want to win this game for their head coach, Lane Kiffin, who led Ole Miss to its best season in program history last year.
Kiffin is now infamous for how he chose to leave the Rebels last fall, as they were on the cusp of a College Football Playoff berth. Instead, the head coach took his talents to Baton Rouge, forcing everyone to circle this Week 3 conference matchup on their calendars.
Leavitt is in his first season with the Tigers after spending the last two seasons at Arizona State. His 2025 campaign ended after only seven games when the QB suffered a season-ending Lisfranc foot injury.
His transition to Baton Rouge has resulted in two wins for LSU, but he himself has not lit up the stat sheet as we saw in his breakout 2024 campaign with Arizona State.
Leavitt has completed 62.1% of his 66 pass attempts for 574 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.
The good news is that it looks like he has fully recovered from his foot injury, as he has scrambled for 135 yards and scored five touchdowns on the ground over two games.
