In many ways, the Buffalo Bills season opener against the Houston Texans looked typical of many of the games that the Bills have played throughout Josh Allen’s tenure at quarterback. The spectacular Allen had the ball in his hands late in the fourth quarter. He threw a go-ahead TD pass to Joshua Palmer with less than two minutes to play. Then Allen had to wait on the sidelines. The Texans drove back down the field and hope the Buffalo defense got the job done.

This time, the Bills survived the late Houston drive, as Greg Rousseau had his second strip sack of the day as he brought down Texans QB C.J. Stroud and Terrel Bernard recovered the loose ball. That gave the Bills a thrilling 36-31 triumph in the season opener.
Allen was overjoyed in the Buffalo locker room after the game. He threw 2 TD passes for the Bills and ran for two more, and he gave the game ball to new Bills head coach Joe Brady after the first victory of his career.

He credited the coach for coming up with the game plan that suited the Bills’ offensive skills. “We love chunk plays,” Allen said, per Bills analyst Ajay Cybulski. “That’s how you score 36 points. You give yourself the opportunity to go score in 4 or 5 plays instead of the long, methodical 14, 15 plays.”
The quarterback had a huge day for the Bills as he completed 20 of 29 passes for 334 yards. Tight end Dalton Kincaid was his top receiver, catching 5 passes for 130 yards.
