The Pittsburgh Steelers earned a 20-13 Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. They got the victory without the help of Joey Porter Jr., who missed the season opener due to a lingering back injury. However, the trade rumors are at an all-time high after Porter and the franchise failed to get a contract extension done.
With rumors ramping up, the 26-year-old cornerback was the first player spotted leaving the Steelers’ locker room, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN. You can see Porter in the gray hoodie in the image Pryor shared on social media.

Porter left the locker room, and likely the facility, before the locker room was even opened to reporters for postgame interviews, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. The timing is curious, as the fourth-year veteran left before he could be questioned by media members.
“Joey Porter Jr. was the first player to leave the locker room before it was open to reporters,” DeFabo said.
Instead, head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about Porter’s status, Pryor claimed on X. In terms of the back injury, McCarthy stated that the former second-round pick is still ramping up and is ready to do more work. As for the trade rumors, McCarthy admitted that it is not something he can discuss.
“Joey, I would put him just finishing up the ramp-up stage,” McCarthy said… “He’s definitely ready to do more. We’ll see how it goes… The business part of it, that’s not for me to speak on. We had a plan… We’re coming to the end of the timeline [for] that.”
With the trade rumors continuing to heat up, the Steelers did not appear to miss Joey Porter Jr. too much in Week 1. Pittsburgh’s defense looked good against a Falcons team that started its third-string quarterback.
In the meantime, the Steelers will move on to Week 2. Pittsburgh is scheduled to face off against the New England Patriots.
