PFT drops Arizona Cardinals to dead last in NFL Week 1 power rankings

GLENDALE – The disrespect surrounding the Arizona Cardinals has reached another level. Pro Football Talk released its NFL Week 1 power rankings and placed Arizona dead last at No. 32. It is another reminder of how little faith exists nationally in what the Cardinals can accomplish during the 2026 season.

For an NFL locker room, that can become powerful fuel and bulletin board material. NFL seasons rarely follow preseason narratives perfectly. Teams improve, injuries reshape expectations, and matchups create opportunities that power rankings cannot fully capture. Arizona doesn’t need to prove every national analyst wrong in September. It only needs to prove one prediction wrong at a time.

Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk have offered plenty of strong opinions about Arizona in the past, but this ranking creates an interesting measuring stick. The Browns, despite their own questions, are viewed as having a better chance to defeat Jacksonville than Arizona is of beating the Chargers. The Cardinals aren’t simply being picked to lose. They are being positioned as theleast competitive team in the league before they have taken a single meaningful snap.

Week 1 provides the perfect opportunity. A victory over the Chargers would immediately challenge the idea that Arizona belongs at the bottom of the league. More importantly, it would establish something every rebuilding or overlooked team needs, which is belief. For Cardinals fans, the question is whether the team can make that ranking look ridiculous by January. The Cardinals have spent months being told what they can’t do; now they will soon finally get to answer on the field.
