It also came a day after news broke that international point guard Noam Yaacov was declared ineligible for the 2026-27 season by the NCAA, while former Northern Iowa guard Trey Campbell was officially added to the team and is practicing with the program as he awaits the ruling on whether he will be granted a fifth year of eligibility.
Who is Fynn Schott?
The 20-year-old Schott is a 6-foot-9 forward/center who hails from Fürstenfeld, Austria. He committed to Utah back in February.
Schott most recently played for Hestia Menorca of the Spanish Primera FEB, averaging 2.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in nearly 15 minutes per game this past season.
His true potential, though, has been showcased in Schott’s work with the Austrian National Team.
After playing at various levels for the junior national program from 2022-25, he’s played for the senior national team the past two years — that included suiting up next to former Utah great Jakob Poeltl.
During two games against the Netherlands at the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year, Schott averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game for Austria.
How will Fynn Schott fit into Utah’s plans?
Schott is expected to play a primary role on the interior for the Utes this season.
He is listed as a freshman on Utah’s roster and, if Schott sticks around the program long-term, he could develop into the program’s future in the paint.
The Utes’ front court will look entirely different in Alex Jensen’s second year as head coach. While Babacar Faye returns, the sixth-year graduate missed the entire 2025-26 season due to injury.
In addition, Utah has added former Weber State center Malek Gomma, junior college transfer forward Zati Loubaki, international forward Alec Anigbata and freshman center Lukas McCanna, as well as former Alta High forward Jaxon Johnson, who returned from a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The gives Utah up to seven big men who could contribute to varying degrees in the post during the 2026-27 season.
With Faye and Gomma headed into their final year of eligibility and Loubaki a junior, Schott is likely viewed as the foundation of the post’s future at Utah.
