Washington Nationals Open Homestead with 13-3 Win vs. Rockies

In what felt like a tale of two games, the Washington Nationals ended a four game losing streak in game one back at Nationals Park after opening the four game series against the Colorado Rockies with a resounding 13-3 win.
The irony? It started with the Nationals being no hit through the first four innings. Yet after returning home following a nine game road trip with just one win to show for it, Monday marked a welcomed performance spearheaded by a five RBI day from Daylen Lile.

With Cade Cavalli on the mound, the Rockies opened the scoring with a 397 foot solo home run to kick off the fourth inning before a second solo shot, this time in the fifth inning, put the Nationals in an early deficit.
Yet that would mark the lone blemish for Cavalli, posting his ninth consecutive quality start after allowing two earned runs and five hits while tossing seven strikeouts in six innings. Monday's start also marked the 26th time that Cavalli has allowed three runs or fewer over his last 28 starts, the most in baseball over that span.
The Nationals, meanwhile, would wake up in the bottom of the fifth inning after an infield single from Jacob Young opened the frame and marked the team's first hit, which proved to open the floodgates. Jorbit Vivas followed it up with a single to center before a sac bunt led to the first of two errors by Colorado, allowing Young and Vivas to score to tie the game. CJ Abrams followed it up with a double into right that drove Nunez home to give Washington a lead they never gave back. After Abrams stole third, Abimelec Ortiz's groundout was enough to drive him home before Daylen Lile's two out run courtesy of the second error cemented a 5-2 lead for the Nationals heading into Cavalli's final inning.
Washington would load the bases with two outs in the sixth inning before Dylan Crews drew a four-pitch walk, then a Daylen Lile single made it an 8-2 contest.
A two-RBI single from Jorbit Vivas in the seventh inning proceeded a three run home run courtesy of Lile in the eighth inning to cement the 13-3 win at home.
The Nationals, now 62-71 overall, will now get a chance to pick up consecutive wins for the first time since the series sweep against the Cincinnati Reds from Aug. 7-9 when they host the Rockies. Andrew Alvarez is set to take the mound with first pitch set for 6:45 PM.
