Multiple New York Giants exit early during joint practice in Miami heat

The New York Giants navigated a handful of injury situations during Thursday’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins in the South Florida heat and humidity.

Rookie first-round pick Francis Mauigoa exited the session with a stinger. The former Miami Hurricanes standout left the field with trainers and did not return to team drills.

Head coach John Harbaugh said that the situation is not considered serious.

Mauigoa was later seen walking without a limp after removing his pads and spending time in a cooling area. Joshua Ezeudu stepped in with the first-team offense at right guard in his place.

Right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor was also forced out. He appeared to get rolled up on earlier in practice, rose slowly but continued for a stretch, then was removed. Marcus Mbow replaced him at right tackle for the remainder of the session.

Defensive lineman Darius Alexander left the field with a trainer. No further details on the nature or severity of the issue were immediately available.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers did not participate in the joint practice, a planned decision as the team continues to carefully ramp him up following ACL surgery. Nabers has recently taken limited team reps while wearing a red non-contact jersey, and coach John Harbaugh had indicated the Giants would hold him out of the higher-intensity work against another team.

The oppressive humidity in Miami Gardens contributed to the cautious approach across the board.

The Giants and Dolphins are scheduled to face each other in a preseason game Saturday.
