The school announced Tuesday that Fields, a highly touted transfer from Louisiana Tech, had been dismissed for a violation of team rules but otherwise did not reveal any specifics. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fields got into a fight with an offensive player.
From the Star-Telegram, which noted that the source cited in the story did not believe that TCU coach Sonny Dykes knew of all the details that led to the fight but that Fields had told coaches about the events that led up to the altercation:
A source with direct knowledge of the incident confirmed Fields' involvement in a fight with an offensive player. Fields is described as "remorseful" and "is taking accountability," but the source also believes the incident could've been avoided.
According to the source, tensions began brewing between Fields and his teammates earlier this month in fall camp. The source said Fields felt targeted by teammates with insults and threats, including multiple moments when was allegedly spit on by a teammate.
The school's crime and fire log notes that an aggravated assault was reported in the football locker rooms on Aug. 14 after the alleged incident had taken place a day earlier. Per the log, the case is still open and active.
Fields was in line to start for the Horned Frogs in 2026 after leading the Bulldogs in tackles in 2025. Fields had 92 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions a season ago as Louisiana Tech went 8-5. Fields was named the co-defensive player of the year in Conference USA.
TCU begins the 2026 season Aug. 29 in Dublin against North Carolina. The Horned Frogs beat UNC 48-14 to open the 2025 season in what was Bill Belichick's first game in charge of the Tar Heels.
