RB Leipzig making late charge at FC Köln’s Said El Mala?

According to Sport1 journalists Niclas Löwendorf and Julius Schamburg, RB Leipzig is attempting to grab Said El Mala from FC Köln.

After Borussia Dortmund’s move for the 19-year-old attacker collapsed, RB Leipzig has emerged as a serious contender for the 1. FC Köln star. According to Sport1, RB Leipzig has been monitoring El Mala for several months before Borussia Dortmund entered the race. Following the departure of Yan Diomandé to Real Madrid, RB Leipzig is urgently searching for an attacking replacement, and El Mala is considered the preferred option.
The major obstacle — as it was for BVB — is the transfer fee. FC Köln reportedly rejected Dortmund offers worth more than €50 million, including bonuses, and continues to demand at least that amount, along with a sell-on clause. RB Leipzig is now considering breaking its traditional transfer limits in order to complete the deal. Reports suggest the club is preparing a package that could reach around €60 million including bonuses.
Such a transfer would require approval from RB Leipzig’s supervisory board because it would significantly exceed the club’s usual spending ceiling. The current record transfer in RB Leipzig’s history remains Xavi Simons, who cost approximately €50 million.
El Mala is believed to be open to a move, especially because Leipzig can offer Champions League football. Both clubs are reportedly interested in finding a quick resolution before the transfer window closes.
Adding El Mala would likely make RB Leipzig a more serious threat to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and probably help the attacker’s chances of getting called up to the German national team as well.
