Daniel Cormier agrees with Joe Rogan, Aspinall right not to continue vs. Gane

Daniel Cormier is happy that Joe Rogan came to the defense of UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

Aspinall was rendered unable to continue after Ciryl Gane poked him in the eyes in their title fight at UFC 321 this past October in Abu Dhabi. As a result, the fight ended in a no contest, and Aspinall had to undergo double eye surgery to repair the damage.
Rogan thinks fans have been too harsh on Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC), and Cormier agrees that the Brit caught a bit of an "unfair shake."
"Tom Aspinall made the right choice," Cormier said on his YouTube channel. "He protected his heavyweight championship because who knows. You're standing in front of Ciryl Gane, one of the most athletic, dynamic guys in the heavyweight division. Who knows what would have happened had he continued to fight. We can't judge the whole fight based on what we saw to that point.
"But to that point, Ciryl Gane was having a lot of success against Tom Aspinall. So maybe it's like, 'Let's go regroup and figure this out.' I don't knock him for that because, again, he's protecting something that's much bigger than most people have to protect. So it was very good for me to see Joe Rogan come to his defense, because obviously we all know Rogan's voice is as big as any voice in the world."
While Aspinall recovered, Gane (14-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC) finished Alex Pereira to claim the interim heavyweight title at UFC Freedom 250 in June. Aspinall and Gane are expected to run things back later in the year.
