How do Nets fans feel about Michael Porter Jr.'s potential extension?

· Yahoo Sports

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. came into this 2026 NBA offseason with the possibility of signing a contract extension with the Nets after having the best season of his career. Brooklyn is basically done with the offseason as they're done with the draft, summer league, and free-agency and now, they will have to decide how to keep Porter in the fold for the long-term.

NetsDaily recently conducted a poll asking Nets fans what would be the right number to sign Porter to an extension and the answers were mostly concentrated on the higher end of what Porter could get. Most of the fans (51%) believed that the right range for Porter to extend on was somewhere between $25 million per year and $34 million per year.

After that, 31% of the respondents to the poll said that the right number to sign Porter to was somewhere between $35 million per season and $44 million per season. Assuming that this poll is a fair approximation of how the majority of the Nets fanbase feels about Porter's extension, it seems that as long as his extension falls between $25 million per year and $44 million per year that the extension should be well-received.

Porter, 28, is coming off a season that many believed would've been his first All-Star season as he averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 36.3% from behind the three-point line. In the midst of Brooklyn going through the Las Vegas Summer League, there were reports that Porter's camp would eventually be engaging with the Nets with the hopes of completing an extension.

Porter is eligible to sign an extension for four years and $234 million, meaning that he could earn as much as $58.5 million per year on his next extension if Brooklyn wants to give him the maximum amount of years and money available to him. Many around the league believed that Porter won't get the maximum amount of money, but it seems like the fanbase is okay with him getting close to that number.
