What to believe?
So far the battle for Bruno Guimaraes has been a phony war.
One played out in the media, by the media, nobody can say for certain what to believe.
Now on Tuesday (28 July 2026) afternoon we have the latest ‘updates’ on the future of Bruno Guimaraes.
I say ‘updates’, neither club officially saying anything, as has been the case across the entire summer.
Instead we have had these respective journalists fighting the Arsenal and Newcastle United corners…
An ‘Exclusive’ from Talksport, credited to Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook at 12.20pm on Tuesday 28 July 2026:
‘Arsenal are now in advanced talks with Newcastle United over Bruno Guimaraes, talkSPORT understands. Although Newcastle have denied formal contact, talkSPORT understands progress has been made on a verbal agreement north of £75million. Newcastle have been left frustrated over speculation regarding his future, and insiders are surprised by Arsenal’s lack of a formal bid to date. Yet Arsenal sources have told talkSPORT that three verbal offers have already been placed. The clubs clearly disagree on what constitutes a bid, which may in part be down to semantics and also the use of intermediaries.’
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph responding at 12.48pm on Tuesday 28 July 2026:
“Not according to Newcastle they aren’t. I’m not sure how many times they can deny it – and someone is pushing this – but I have literally got off the phone to senior source at Newcastle United who said “there is no situation with Bruno, there is nothing new, there are zero talks taking place at the moment…”
One thing we can all be sure of is…not everybody is telling the truth. Within that you would need to include both clubs and the journalists, the truth is in there somewhere but who can we believe?
You can all make your own mind up on what you believe but for me this line stands out…

The Premier League kicks off in 24 days time when Arsenal face Coventry. Two days later Newcastle United face Liverpool.
What we do know for sure is that Barcelona put in an official written offer of £70m and signed Anthony Gordon, Tottenham put it officially in writing and their £100m offer for Sandro Tonali was accepted. Just as Manchester City submitted an official £116m written bid for Elliot Anderson and Chelsea £117m officially offered in writing for Morgan Rogers, both accepted.
Rather than hiding behind client journalists and arguments about what does or doesn’t constitute an offer in the ether, Arsenal need to now make an official written bid to Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes, a bid that we can all agree is really really a proper bid. Then Newcastle United can look at that official written bid and make an official response.
If Arsenal are serious about this then they simply need to get on with it, or else get off the pot. Not that we can even be sure at this point whether the Gunners have actually even climbed onto the pot as yet…
