Yankees announce Monday lineup vs Pirates, who are in NL playoff hunt

NEW YORK – Entering the weekend, the Yankees had played the fewest interleague games of any team this year.
But with the arrival of the Dodgers – who took two of three at Yankee Stadium – the Yanks began a stretch of six series vs. NL teams out of seven, through Aug. 9.

All six of those clubs are over .500, including the Pittsburgh Pirates (52-48) who arrive in the Bronx to begin a three-game set on Monday.

Currently in a three-way tie with St. Louis and Miami for the last NL wild card spot, the Pirates will send right-hander Braxton Ashcraft (9-3, 3.49) to start vs. Yanks’ lefty Ryan Weathers (3-7, 4.15).
Weathers’ last start was July 10; his scheduled Saturday start vs. the Dodgers was rained out, and the Yanks pushed him to Monday night’s series opener.
Weathers and Ashcraft were in the MLB draft class of 2018, with Weathers taken seventh overall by the Padres and Ashcraft drafted in the second round (51st overall) by Pittsburgh.
That year, the Yankees selected switch-hitting catcher/infielder Anthony Seigler, now with the surging Red Sox – winners of 13 straight.
The Yankees are 11-10 this year in interleague games.
