The Dutch international is set to join Los Blancos in a long-term deal from Inter Milan and will provide tough competition to Trent-Alexander Arnold in the right-back position.

Dumfries joins a list that includes Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Marc Cucurella, as part of Real Madrid’s summer makeover.

Real Madrid confirmed the agreement through an official statement, with Dumfries signing a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030.

The 30-year-old had established himself as one of the finest attacking full-backs in Europe, winning multiple Serie A titles and a host of domestic trophies during his time in Italy.

Real Madrid are understood to have activated his release clause, believed to be in the region of €20-25 million, to seal the deal.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the expected first-choice right-back, Dumfries has been brought in to provide serious competition and act as the direct replacement for the departing Dani Carvajal.

Dumfries arrives at the Bernabeu on the back of a solid World Cup campaign with the Netherlands, even if it ended in disappointment.

The right-back registered two assists during the group stage, with his marauding runs and late arrivals in the box a constant menace.

The Netherlands topped their group impressively, including a 5-1 demolition of Sweden, before their tournament came to a surprise end with a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Morocco in the knockout rounds.

Despite the early exit, Dumfries’ displays reaffirmed why Real Madrid moved to sign him.

The club were expected to announce the deal earlier, but delayed it at the request of the player.
