The Boston Red Sox just swept the New York Yankees, and their starting pitching in the series was phenomenal.
The Red Sox are without their top starter, Garrett Crochet, but the top of their rotation has still managed to be elite. In fact, Sonny Gray, Payton Tolle and Ranger Suarez have a combined ERA of 3.01. The best ERA from starters in baseball belongs to the Milwaukee Brewers, who have a 3.16 ERA.

Sonny Gray, Payton Tolle, Ranger Suarez, Jake Bennett and Connelly Early have a combined ERA of 3.01.
When Crochet returns, the Red Sox have a chance to have the best rotation in all of baseball. That alone may be enough to get them into the postseason in a very weak American League.
Only two teams have a winning record in the American League right now. The Red Sox entered play on Monday, 4 1/2 games out of a wild card spot. However, their pitching is proving it's good enough to keep them in nearly every game. The Red Sox's next two series are against the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels.
The Nationals are one game over .500, and the Angels are in last place in the American League West. The Red Sox have a chance to go on a nice stretch before the All-Star Break, and then come out swinging in the second half. If they get Roman Anthony and Crochet back, it could also provide a huge boost.
However, the efforts of Gray, Tolle and Suarez are a huge reason why the Red Sox even have a chance. The three of them collectively have performed better than the best-performing rotation in baseball.
