The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich striker has agreed a deal which will run through the 2027-28 MLS season.

"His arrival reinforces our ambition to compete for trophies and raises the standards for the club to heights worthy of this city," Gregg Berhalter, Chicago director of football and head coach, said in a statement on Monday.

"We cannot wait to get to work with him and have Chicago see first-hand why he is among the most revered sporting icons in the world."

The striker's contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the month.

Signing him is the next high-profile coup for Chicago after recruiting Germany icon Bastian Schweinsteiger 2017-19.

Lewandowski, 37, could potentially meet an old acquaintance in Chicago, with reports saying Fire is also keen on Germany's Leon Goretzka, who is leaving Bayern.
