Before joining Argentinos Juniors, Giaccone, 25, played four seasons for Rosario Central in Argentina and notched eight goals and 11 assists. Giaccone went through Rosario Central's academy system and made his professional debut for the club in 2021.
“Lautaro is a creative, dynamic player who can contribute to our club in multiple ways,” Crew general manager Issa Tall said in a statement. “Lautaro's versatility and abilities fit our style of play on both sides of the ball, and we are excited to incorporate him into our team."
Giaccone's loan will run through June 2027 and include an option for the Crew to purchase his contract.
With Giaccone filling an international roster spot, the Crew have filled the additional slot they received after trading defender Yevhen Cheberko to Los Angeles FC. Another international roster spot could open if the Crew fail to retain midfielder Andres Herrera following the expiration of his loan from River Plate on June 30.
The announcement of the loan on June 29 occurred hours after a source confirmed the Crew are sending team-leading scorer Diego Rossi to CF Monterrey for up to $8 million. The Crew have yet to announce Rossi's departure.
